Kestrels 5-1 Dons (Nov 1st)

Fresh from battering ARU, the Kestrels came into this game full of confidence and were ready to outclass our Sunday league opponents with our self-proclaimed ‘Hoff-ball’ style of play. Despite the Arctic conditions, the boys started brightly, forcing some good saves from the Dons’ keeper, but it wasn’t long until the deadlock was broken when Luca had a ‘gerraaaaard’ moment, smashing the ball in to the bottom corner from 30 yards out. Shortly afterwards, a fast counterattack, which Ryan was quick to claim ‘came straight off the training ground’, resulted in Macca squaring the ball for Dani to tap home, giving us a well-deserved 2-0 lead. A questionable penalty decision meant the Dons were able to pull one back before the break, meaning we went in at half time with only a one goal lead to show for our undoubted dominance. In the second half however, the floodgates opened with Matt tapping home from an in-swinging corner from Aran early on. Soon after, Ankush, who was deputising at CB, beat two men and played a beautiful pass through to Dani who finished well to grab his second of the match. A late period of pressure from the Dons amounted to nothing thanks to some stoic defending and top quality keeping on our end. Finally, Macca, whose opposing fullback may never want to play football again after being run ragged all game, played a deft pass into the box for Aran to finish, giving us a 5-1 final score. Top performance all round from the boys, may the 100% winning start to the season long continue.
